Description

Artist’s interest in the topic of mental disorders was sparked after watching the 2001 documentary Outcasts. The film, which explored life within the Vardenis Psychiatric Hospital and its long-term residents, left a profound impact on her. She was struck by the realization that the individuals portrayed in the documentary seemed freer than those on the “other side of the grid.” Each person in the film was depicted as deeply human, unafraid to openly express their emotions. Through his work, Artistseeks to challenge the stigma surrounding mental disabilities and dismantle the stereotypes often associated with them. Her art aims to tear down the metaphorical “walls” that society has built around psychiatric institutions. The recurring motif of empty chairs in her creations symbolizes a seat reserved for each of us, inviting reflection on the shared humanity that transcends these barriers.
