Country:Armenia
Born in Yerevan, Armenia, in 1983, Ashot Yan’s artistic journey began to take shape during his formative years at H. Kojoyans High School of Arts, where he graduated in 2000. Despite the structured curriculum, Yan’s passion for art led him on clandestine excursions to museums, where he honed his skills by meticulously copying the classics.
In pursuit of formal education, Yan attained his MA degree in Painting from the esteemed Yerevan State Fine Arts Academy in 2006 and embarked on a teaching career at Maluntians Art School from 2008 to 2011, illustrating over 15 books. Simultaneously, Yan’s true calling as an artist beckoned him to transition fully to his artistic endeavours, leading him to leave his role as an instructor and dedicating himself entirely to his craft.
Yan is renowned for his captivating oil-on-canvas creations. Embracing his homeland’s artistic legacy and drawing from surrealist influences, Yan transports viewers to mediaeval realms through his paintings. With intricate brushwork and vibrant colours, he blurs reality and imagination, inviting audiences into enchanting and mysterious worlds. His unique fusion of surrealism and mediaeval aesthetics has garnered him global recognition, with exhibitions in prestigious galleries and art events.
His works can be found in the private collections in various countries such as Imoga Art Museum in Turkey, Italy, France, USA, Russia, Lebanon and Malta.
