Samuel Almansa is a Mallorca-based artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans video, installation, painting, and muralism. A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts of Cuenca, Almansa’s work engages with figuration to explore themes rooted in contemporary collective memory. Through the use of airbrush and installation, he redefines aesthetic boundaries by focusing on suburban subcultures, represented through motifs such as trucks, kitsch tourist objects, and techno parties. These subjects reflect the artist’s personal connections to his upbringing in suburban neighborhoods, where he developed his distinctive visual language. Almansa’s work is a vibrant reflection of neo-folklore and popular culture, examining how digital platforms and media reinterpret and transform cultural identities. He is particularly interested in the degradation of reality through layers of information and opinion, highlighting how these constructs shape perceptions detached from truth or personal experience.
Since embarking on his professional career three and a half years ago, Almansa has continuously reimagined his approach to painting, delving into themes as diverse as sports, nature, religion, and pop culture. Recently, his practice has shifted toward dreamlike animal portraits, characterized by a seamless, airbrushed style and striking highlights of thick white paint. These elements evoke a ceramic, surreal aesthetic inspired by the people and objects closest to him—his family, friends, and immediate surroundings.
Currently based in Palma de Mallorca, Almansa draws inspiration from his mother’s cherished figurines, his father’s life as a truck driver, and his relationships, which serve as his primary pictorial references. Through his deeply personal yet universally resonant work, Almansa offers a quiet, surreal reflection on the intersection of culture, identity, and contemporary life.
