Satenik Ghulijanyan, born in Yerevan, Armenia in 1985, found her artistic calling early on, inspired by her father’s role as both an artist and a director of an art school. It was under his guidance and encouragement that Ghulijanyan discovered her innate passion for the arts.
While pursuing her studies in fashion design in Yerevan, Ghulijanyan honed her skills in painting and sculpture through private lessons. These formative years were instrumental in shaping her artistic identity and honing her craft, allowing her to develop a distinctive style that would later come to define her work.
Ghulijanyan’s figurative compositions delve deep into the complexities of human emotion, portraying individuals from moments of intense joy to profound loneliness. Drawing from her own personal experiences as an immigrant, Ghulijanyan’s work reflects the challenges of adapting to new cultures, often exploring themes of cultural identity and perspective through nuanced depictions of the human form.
Ghulijanyan favours the expressive qualities of oil paint, pastels and charcoal, captivating viewers with vibrant colours, dynamic compositions and fluid lines. In her monochromatic pieces, Ghulijanyan creates a sense of a tranquil atmosphere.
Currently based in Hamburg, Germany, Ghulijanyan works as a freelance artist, directs studio courses and teaches at a high school. Her art has been showcased in both national and international exhibitions in Armenia, Germany and the USA.
